Vennhausen lies to the east of Düsseldorf city centre, between Eller and Fliegern. As recently as the early 20th century, it was still swampy ground with only isolated farmsteads.
During the Great Depression of the 1920s and 1930s, incomers expended great effort to cultivate the land, often at their own expense, in order to settle here with their often very large families. Today, Vennhausen is characterised by developments of detached houses, although there are also several recreation areas.
