    Südviertel The Südviertel lies directly to the south of the city centre, and is where Essen’s office complexes are situated, as well as being its cultural hub. Furthermore, it is also a popular residential area. Of particular cultural and architectural interest is the Aalto theatre, which houses the Essen Opera. Further south, you will find the Ruhrland museum and the Folkwang museum. The eastern area of the district is a particularly sought-after residential area. The A40 and A52 can be reached in just a few minutes. Parts of the city centre are easily reached on foot, and several tram routes take you to other areas of the city.
