The ‘productive heart’ of this former mining town was the Südstadt, around five kilometres south of the centre. Today, the Südstadt is a really mixed area: Plenty of shops and buildings dating back to the industrial revolution nestle alongside one another. In the area around the Südpark, the standard of accommodation is relatively high. The A42, A43 and A2 motorways can all be found nearby. The building forms an ideal starting point for a cycle tour, for example towards Hochlarmark to the Halde Hoheward former spoil heap, where you can enjoy a wonderful view over the Ruhr district.
