Lagebeschreibung
Dortmund's Innenstadt-West district comprises the city's historic centre within the former ramparts, and therefore also the shopping centre and U-tower arts centre. To the south of this are urban residential districts: First of all the Klinikviertel based around the Klinikum Dortmund hospital complex, then the Kreuzviertel and followed by the sports stadiums (Signal Iduma Park football stadium, Westfalenhallen exhibition centre, Stadion Rote Erde stadium and the Helmut-König-Halle light athletics stadium in the former Dortmunder Volkspark park). To the west of the actual city centre you will find dense residential developments around Rheinische Straße. This part of the city district is densely built, with the properties dating back to around 1900. Some of the buildings used for residential purposes, in the traffic-calmed side streets south of Rheinische Straße, have been thoroughly renovated.
